Cisco Access Point Operational Notes

The Cisco access points should have the "AP Radio Data Encryption" set as follows:

Caution: If an access point is configured to not allow "Open System" authentication, the present WiFi driver cannot associate.

Caution: If a Cisco access point has TKIP, MIC or any other proprietary Cisco extension enabled, the present WiFi driver cannot associate.

Note: IOS access points (late model 1200 and 1100) are set up differently. Set the SSID manager to be "Open with EAP". Enable EAP authentication for the server.

Note: It is important to note that when using the Cisco ACU, unlike the AEGIS Client for Palm, the AP’s "Open" mode authentication and EAP authentication do not need to be enabled, just "Network EAP", which is Cisco proprietary. In Network EAP, Cisco uses firmware on their card to put all the authentication information into the radio level (802.11) frame. EAP packets are not used. AEGIS (and all 802.1X protocols) pass this information in EAP packets. If "Open" and "EAP" are not enabled on the AP, EAP packets are locked out of the AP.
